4 Simple Life Changers for 2012

The Centre is actively involved in the local Vitality Initiative and you can find the Vitality Initiative on Facebook and at the website www.nrvitality.com.  Below are 4 Simple Life Changers for 2012 as suggested by Dan Buettner, who is the author of the Blue Zones book.

Volunteer for one new organization this month. Volunteers have lower health care costs and report higher levels of well-being. Also: new studies find that altruism is as addictive as sugar or cocaine. So, try it once and you’ll be hooked.

Make one new happy friend this month. Each new happy friend you add to your network increases your happiness by 15%.

Get down to one TV screen in your home. Americans watch about 5 hours per day but studies show the happiest people are only watching about an hour. Reduce TV watching to only one room of the house to make your hour of watching worthwhile.

Put a scale in your bathroom. People who weigh themselves each day weigh about 17 lbs. less over the course of two years than people who never weigh themselves.

Expansion Project gets City Council Approval

Thank you to all of our members who came in support of the Centre last night.  You packed the council chambers in support of the expansion and remodel project.  The meeting went well with Centre Board Members Jill Schreck and Gary Bakke sharing with the council all the reasons why this project is needed.  In the end we received the necessary support from the council in favor of the project and we will now begin the detail work to be prepared to start this Spring.

It was a great night for the Centre and a great night for our community.  Thank you to our members because without you none of this would be possible.

Countdown to Construction Approval

We are just days away from making our final presentation to the New Richmond City Council for our proposed expansion and renovation.  If all goes well on January 9th we'll be able to get started right after with more detailed plans for the changes.

Watch for information on our Shaping Our Future project in the front lobby this week!
